From today onwards, quarantine for travellers entering Macao from Hong Kong, Taiwan and other foreign countries will be adjusted to 5+3, meaning five days in observation hotels – with a daily nucleic acid test (NAT) on the first four days – and three days’ home quarantine.

The Novel Coronavirus Response and Coordination Centre has now announced that under the 3-day home quarantine guideline, co-occupants will not be allowed to go to restaurants, attend parties, take public buses, staff buses or the LRT until the person undergoing the +3 of quarantine tests negative on the final day.

The Centre has also said co-occupants need to report their situations to their employers, and employers will be urged to ask employees to wear masks, dine alone, and refrain from office gatherings.

The guidelines also list additional home requirements for home isolation: “it is best to live alone; if there is a separate room, the unit should not exceed 5 people, including those under home isolation; the room should be well ventilated and have windows that can be opened; conditions permitting to try to use a separate bathroom and avoid shared bathrooms; to keep a distance of more than 1 metre with co-occupants.”

Those who do not meet the requirements will be required to stay at a specific Red Code hotel.

During the three days of home quarantine, individuals will be required to undergo a NAT on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd day at the city’s 14 testing centres for red health code holders. Rapid antigen tests will need to be taken every time individuals leave their home to take the NAT. Regulations also stipulate that masks equivalent to N95, KN95 or FFP2 must be worn.
