The mercury is forecast to drop to as low as 14°C this Sunday, according to multiple media reports.

Data from the Macao Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau (SMG) indicates that the city will feel the effects of a cold front, which will result in the temperature falling to a low of 17°C on Saturday, before dropping further the following day.

The weather over the next several days is expected to be particularly windy due to the effects of a north-easterly monsoon, with temperatures between 16 to 24°C tomorrow.

Despite the dip in temperature this weekend in Macao, there are multiple reports that the global climate in 2024 will be even hotter than last year, with scientists from the United State’s National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration stating that there is a one-in-three probability that 2024’s temperatures will surpass the previous year’s.

Last year was the third hottest year in Macao since the collection of data first started in 1952. The highest temperature was 35.2°C, which was reported in October. On average, the SAR experienced temperatures that averaged 23.3°C.

In its overview of the weather in 2023, the SMG warned that “we must be aware of the threat posed by climate change and take action.”
