Unsettled weather is expected to continue in Macao over the coming days, according to the Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau (known by its Portuguese initials SMG).

The bureau says a trough of low pressure will bring frequent showers and thunderstorms to the region and advises the public to pay close attention to weather conditions.

Showers will be heavy at times, particularly today and Tuesday, with strong gusts and the possibility of flooding in low-lying areas.

Thunderstorms and thundery showers are expected to continue through to the weekend. It will be somewhat cooler as well this week, with minimum temperatures of around 22℃ or 23℃.

Macao’s neighbouring SAR, Hong Kong, is also in for a wet few days, with squally thunderstorms forecast.

The unsettled weather comes as the region prepares for typhoon season, with a higher than normal number of cyclones expected this year – a phenomenon attributed by scientists to climate change.
