Rain and thunderstorms are expected to persist over Macao and much of the Pearl River Delta through Tuesday, according to forecasters.
The Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau (known by its Portuguese initials SMG) says the unsettled weather is the result of an active southwest monsoon and upper-level disturbances.
A thunderstorm warning was cancelled shortly before 2 pm. However, the SMG warns that residents can expect further rain and strong gusty winds today, with possible flooding in low-lying areas.

Members of the public should “pay attention to the latest alerts and warnings issued by SMG” and “make timely adjustments to their travel arrangements,” the bureau says.
Meanwhile, nearby Hong Kong – some 60 kilometres from Macao across the Pearl River estuary – was pummelled with heavy rain on Monday morning, with the local observatory issuing the “amber” rainstorm alert twice.
Meteorologists say that with the southwest monsoon moderating in the next day or so, rains will ease, and sunny intervals and hot temperatures are expected in Macao from Wednesday.
