The Municipal Affairs Bureau (known by its Portuguese initials IAM) has released more details about its plans to refurbish major areas in Freguesia da Sé, including the NAPE shoreline and Praça Ferreira do Amaral, according to a TDM report.

During a community meeting yesterday evening, IAM discussed key features of phase two of the South Shore Waterfront Green Promenade project between Ponte Governador Nobre de Carvalho and Portas do Entendimento.

It said that work would cover an area of 60,000 square metres, stretching 1,300 metres from its eastern to western side. The scheme will include recreational areas for families, as well as designated areas for pedal cars, skateboarding, fitness, fishing and other activities.

The department earlier announced that it expected the second stage of the two-year project to commence in the latter part of 2024. Currently, it is still collecting suggestions and feedback from residents.

Upgrades to Praça Ferreira do Amaral – a major bus hub in the city – were also mentioned, with IAM pointing out that there are plans to repave the footpaths, modify and increase the green areas along such paths, improve the lighting, as well as fix the water leakage issue in the underpass.

Other projects that were mentioned over the course of the gathering included optimising the lighting in Tap Seac Square; making improvements to the floodgates in Nan Van Lake and Sai Van Lake; and performing maintenance work on various roads across the city.
