Art Macao — which launched in 2019 and ran from June to October — will not be held in 2020, according to information from the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC).

According to the Macau Daily Times they had been informed of this by the IC.

“The event will not take place in 2020 due to the situation created by the coronavirus epidemic and other limitations,” said the IC.

According to the newspaper, the IC said that the official information on the cancellation of Art Macao 2020 will be given in due time.

Art Macao 2019, considered by the previous administration to be the biggest event of its kind in the history of Macau, had the support of Macau gambling operators and other private economic groups.

Organised under the auspices of the Secretariat for Social Affairs and Culture, Art Macao was co-organized by the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO), the Education and Youth Affairs Bureau (DSEJ) and the Higher Education Bureau (DSES).

Art Macao 2019 cost 34 million patacas (16,6  million by the government and 17,4 million by  casino and junket operadores).

According to the newspaper, it is not yet known if the Macau Literary Festival in March, the Macao Arts Festival in May, the Macao International Music Festival in October, and the Grand Prix in November will also be cancelled.
