Macau’s restaurateurs reported “subdued” business in July, the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) said on Monday.
According to the DSEC statement, the proportion of restaurants reporting a year-on-year rise in receipts decreased by 6 percentage points from June to 34 per cent. The corresponding proportion of Chinese restaurants (35 per cent) decreased by 11 percentage points, whereas the share of Japanese and Korean restaurants (30 per cent) went up by 8 percentage points. On the other hand, 31 per cent of the restaurants recorded a year-on-year decline in receipts in July, a growth of 4 percentage points from June.
According to the Macau Post Daily, retail sales performance was “relatively stable” in July, the statement said. The proportion of retailers reporting a year-on-year decrease in sales dropped by 10 percentage points from June to 35 per cent, while the corresponding proportion of motor vehicle retailers (40 per cent) went down by 30 percentage points. Meanwhile, 28 per cent of the retailers reported steady sales year-on-year, a 10 percentage point rise from the preceding month. Some 37 per cent of the retailers reported a year-on-year sales increase, representing a slight decrease of 1 percentage point from June. The corresponding proportions of leather goods retailers (20 per cent) and Supermarkets (44 per cent) decreased by 40 percentage points and 33 percentage points respectively, while the share of retailers of timepieces and jewellery (33 per cent) rose by 22 percentage points.
