Macau’s composite consumer price index (CPI) rose by 3.02 per cent year-on-year last month, down by 0.29 percentage points from the 3.31 per cent growth in March, the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) announced on Tuesday.
For the 12 months ended in April 2016, the average composite CPI rose by 4.09 per cent from the previous 12-month period. The index for January-April increased by 3.50 per cent year-on-year. The bureau attributed the increase mainly to higher rentals for parking spaces and the rising cost of eating out, as well as higher prices of cars and tobacco.
Last month also saw higher prices of women’s summer clothing and footwear, as well as higher prices of petrol.
On the other hand, the government statisticians recorded lower rentals for residential units and reduced charges for electricity and package tours.
Lower prices of vegetables and fresh fish offset the rise in prices of fresh pork and the charges for eating out.
