The Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) launched its Macao Week roadshow event yesterday in Wuhan, Hubei. The event hopes to showcase Macao’s offerings in culture, trade and tourism, according to Zhang Xiaomei, director of the Hubei Provincial Government’s Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office.

According to a statement by the MGTO, the roadshow highlights Macao’s appeal as a UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy. It offers more than 26 million yuan (US$3.6 million) in travel incentives for Wuhan residents and features a Macao-themed buffet at Wuhan’s luxurious Wanda Reign Hotel.

The buffet menu was designed with contributions by chefs Herlander Fernandes and Pedro Miguel Santos do Carmo of Macao’s Grand Lisboa Palace and Artyzen Grand Lapa hotels. The two chefs were present at a launch event yesterday for a special “experience session” for local media and influencers.

Zhang described the roadshow as a “golden business card” to represent Macao to Hubei travellers.

Apart from promoting Macao as a destination, the roadshow is also intended as an opportunity for industry exchanges. Wang Guobing, a representative of a Macao travel agency, told TDM that he hopes to establish connections with Wuhan’s tourism industry, facilitating the creation of services and itineraries for tourists from Wuhan.

Macao and Hubei have a close relationship, said Zhang in a speech during the opening press conference. The SAR received 567,000 tourists from Hubei last year, she said, while the number of Macao students studying in the province has also been increasing.
