The annual Guangdong & Macao Branded Products Fair starts tomorrow, with a focus on smart devices used to kit out hotel guest rooms. Held over four days the Venetian Macao’s Cotai Expo, the event is playing host to more than 450 exhibitors.

President of the Commerce and Investment Promotion Institute (known by its Portuguese initials IPIM) Vincent U noted this year’s fair had a dedicated area for smart devices, enabling shoppers “grasp the current development trend … and find suitable smart solutions for upgrading and restructuring, thereby facilitating their business development”.

He said that Macao currently had more than 48,000 hotel rooms, many of which “need renovating” after more than two decades in the business.

The fair also features a sizable area showcasing Chinese culture through traditional clothing and tea ceremonies. U said that photo sessions with items of the clothing were being planned at various locations around Macao, “with up to 1,000 Chinese traditional clothing enthusiasts”.

Other areas would be dedicated to Macao-made items, products from Belt and Road countries, and business matching sessions. “We hope to emphasise that the participating exhibitors not only focus on selling on-site but can also arrange business-to-business [deals] and invest here,” U said.

According to U, this would be the “largest ever” Guangdong & Macao Branded Products Fair and should attract around 100,000 visitors.
