Macao’s composite consumer price index (CPI) stood at 105.05 in November, a year-on-year rise of 1.16 percent, according to the latest figures from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC).

Compared with October, the CPI was up by just 0.03 percent.

Month-on-month, the prices of alcohol, out-patient health services, eating out, fruit and fuel increased. Transport, non-alcoholic beverages, and some basic foodstuffs experienced price drops, meanwhile.

Year-on-year, education and the category of recreation and culture grew notably – by 8.67 and just over 4 percent respectively.

Labour representatives routinely dispute official figures and claim anecdotally that inflation is around the 3 percent mark.

A survey conducted earlier this year forecast salary growth of between 2.8 and 3.3 percent for Macao in 2024 as workers seek to defray the higher cost of living.
