Gaming sector employs over 57,000

A total of 57,246 people were employed full-time by Macau’s gaming sector at the end of last year, a year-on-year- growth of 1.1 percent.

A total of 57,246 people were employed full-time by Macau’s gaming sector at the end of last year, a year-on-year- growth of 1.1 percent, the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) announced Thursday.

The sector employed about 14.5 percent of the city’s labour force of 394,900 at that time.

The number of dealers (croupiers) rose by 1.1 percent to 24,719 at the end of last year. Dealers accounted for 43.1 percent of all gaming sector employees.

In December, the average earnings (excluding bonuses) of full-time gaming sector employees stood at 23,740 patacas, up by 3.5 percent year-on-year. Dealers’ average earnings increased by 3 percent to 20,450 patacas in December.

In the fourth quarter of last year, the sector reported 1,321 job vacancies, up by 861 year-on-year. There were 445 vacancies for dealers.

In the fourth quarter, 1,737 new employees were hired, up by 14.4 percent year-on-year. (Macaunews)
