Singapore has topped Forbes’ Advisor List as the safest city for travellers, scoring 0 out of 100 for risk. Japan’s capital, Tokyo, and Toronto, Canada rounded out the top three, while two other Asian cities made the top 10: South Korea’s Seoul and a second entrant for Japan, Osaka.
Forbes compared a total of 60 travel destinations (a relatively small percentage of the world’s cities that did not include Macao) based on metrics like crime, personal security, health, infrastructure, digital security and natural disasters. It based its findings on data from the US Department of State, the Economist and Numbeo, among other sources.
Hong Kong was the only Greater Bay Area city included in the list, and got ranked as the 13th safest city for tourists. Taiwan’s capital, Taipei, came in one slot above.

China’s Beijing and Shanghai were also on the list, earning the titles of 36th and 34th safest cities respectively. Portugal’s capital, Lisbon, was the 17th safest.
Forbes deemed Venezuela’s capital, Caracas, the least safe – or, most risky – travel destination on its list. The city scored 100, reflecting rampant crime, low levels of healthcare available and a high likelihood of privacy violations and identity theft online.
Karachi, Pakistan, and Myanmar’s Yangon were the second and third riskiest travel destinations, according to Forbes (or, the 59th and 58th safest). The Philippines’ capital, Manila, and Bangladesh’s Dhaka were the only other Asian cities listed in the 10 most risky destinations category. They came in fifth and sixth place respectively (or, 56th and 55th safest).
