Sports Bureau (ID) President Pun Weng Kun pointed out on Wednesday that last year’s Macau Grand Prix included three World Cup motor-racing events which demonstrated a high degree of trust and recognition from the FIA, adding that the events would further enhance Macau’s “appeal and standing” in the international motorsport community.
Pun made the remarks in a speech during a press conference about the 66th Macau Grand Prix (MGP) at the Macau Science Centre in Nape.
ID President Pun Weng Kun, Senior Vice President of Corporate and Community Relations of Suncity Group Gina Lei, Automobile General Association of Macau-China Chairman Lo Keng Choi, Automobile General Association of China-Macau President Chong Coc Veng and ID vice-presidents and deputy coordinators of the Macau Grand Prix Organization Committee (MGPOC) Allen Lau Cho Un and Christine Lam Lin Kio attended the press conference.
Pun also serves as the coordinator of the MGPOC.
The 66th MGP will be held from November 14 to 17 in Macau.
The MGP is the world’s only street circuit racing event in which both cars and motorcycles compete. The first MGP event was held in 1954, as a sports car event.
The International Automobile Federation (FIA) was established in 1904 and is headquartered in Paris. It represents the interests of motoring organisations and motor car users. To the general public, FIA is mostly known as the governing body for many auto racing events. FIA also promotes road safety around the world.
Pun also pointed out that Macau will continue to host the three World Cup events this year, namely the FIA F3 World Cup, the FIA GT World Cup and the FIA World Touring Car Race (WTCR), adding that the preparations were now in “full swing”.
Pun also announced that the Suncity Group will once again be the title sponsor this year.
Chong noted that the 66th MGP Programme continues to comprise six races, namely the Formula 3 Macau Grand Prix, Macau GT Cup, Macau Guia Race, 53rd Macau Motorcycle Grand Prix, Macau Touring Car Cup, and Greater Bay Area GT Cup.
Chong also serves as the coordinator of the Sporting Subcommittee of the MGPOC.
According to an MGPOC statement, the tickets for the 66th MGP will go on sale on June 3, and the prices for the practice days will remain unchanged at 50 patacas.
The statement also points out that the prices for the event days have been slightly increased from last year’s, ranging from 400 patacas to 1,000 patacas, adding that prices vary depending on the spectator stand, and each person may purchase up to 20 tickets at a time.
The statement further noted that anyone who holds a valid student ID card in Macau may purchase tickets for the event in the Reservoir Stand for 150 patacas, adding that each student is limited to one daily discounted ticket, which are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
