Guangdong beat Macao to win basketball’s Guangdong-Macao Cup once again

Guangdong defeated Macao 82-68 in the second leg of the Guangdong-Macao Cup Men’s Basketball Tournament on Tuesday night at Huizhou Sports Centre, completing a two-leg sweep to claim the title.

In the first leg held in Macao’s Tap Seac Sports Pavilion, Guangdong scored a 91-79 win, giving it the advantage heading into the return match in Huizhou.

During the second leg, Macao led briefly in the opening quarter and held an 18-12 advantage at the end of the first period. Guangdong responded in the second quarter by increasing defensive pressure, forcing turnovers and scoring through fast breaks to take a 39-37 lead at halftime.

Guangdong pulled away in the third quarter, outscoring Macao 24-11 to build a double-digit lead. Zhang Zhiyuan led all scorers with 21 points, while Liu Kangneng and Fu Haoming also reached double figures.

Macao had four players score in double figures, but was unable to reduce the deficit in the final quarter. Guangdong maintained control to secure an 82-68 victory.

The result saw Guangdong win both legs of the series and lift the Guangdong-Macao Cup for the 10th consecutive time.
