Macau, China, 7 Jun – China Nanhai Jiujiang team, a frequent winner of the annual Macau International Dragon Boat Races, has once again dominated the race this year, closing the three-day event Monday with another victory in the event’s 500 metre international race open category.

Including Monday’s victory, the team has won the same race for four consecutive years, as well as in 2005 and 2006. The Philippines National Team won the race in 2007.

Coming second and third in the Monday race were SJM Golden Jubilee and Pu Ao Zhi You Sports Association, respectively.

The China Nanhai Jiujiang team also won the event’s 500 metre international race women’s category, followed by China Tianjin and Singapore National Team in second and third places. The China Nanhai Jiujiang has also won this category several times, including in 2008 and 2009. Last year’s winner was China Zhaoqing Hotel Rio Team.

Nanhai is a district of Foshan city in Guangdong province.

The two international races are the main races in the Macau International Dragon Boat Races. Other races include 250 metre and 500 metre local races, as well as 500 metre local university students’ race.

According to The Macau Post Daily the 2011 Macau International Dragon Boat Races, held at the Nam Van Lake Nautical Centre, were co-organised by the Sport Development Board (IDM) and the Macau China Dragon Boat Association.(MacauNews/ Sports)
