Macau, China, 24 Aug – The Macau Golf Open 2010 is at risk to be cancelled, according to the South China Morning Post.

The Sports Development Bureau has already taken it off the schedule on its official website.

The failure to find a title sponsor and rising costs are the reasons for the end of the event, which has been part of the Asian Tour since 1998.

The Macau Golf Open was scheduled to occur from October 21 to 24 at the Macau Golf and Country Club in Coloane.

“It was proving too expensive for the Macau government to run without a title sponsor,” a source on the Macau Open organising committee told the newspaper.

“It cost around HK$10 million last year to stage the event and they [Macau Sports Development Bureau] didn’t want to put that sort of money up again.”

The Asian Tour is, however, still trying to maintain the event in its schedule.
