This year’s Macau Grand Prix is slated to run on two consecutive weekends, with two week-long events surrounding the annual motor racing competition.
A number of international races are expected to return this year, said Sports Bureau President Pun Weng Kun, who added that the expanded event aims to attract more tourists to visit Macao and extend their stay.
This year marks the 70th anniversary of the Macau Grand Prix.
Pun described the hosting of the Macau Grand Prix for 70 consecutive years as “a great feat”, pointing out that the teams and drivers overseen by the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA), which was established in June 1904 to represent the interests of motoring organisations and motor car users, were aware of the upcoming 70th Macau Grand Prix, and they all hoped to attend local races.
Regarding the FIA Formula 3 World Cup, one of Macao’s signature races, which has been suspended since 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Pun said he was confident that this year’s Formula 3 World Cup will return to the Guia Circuit, presenting a higher level of competition for spectators, adding that the bureau had received “positive responses” from overseas racers wanting to compete in the FIA GT World Cup.
The Macau Grand Prix is the world’s only international motor-racing contest that comprises car and motorcycle races, The Macau Post Daily noted.
