Macau, China, 6 Dec – Ethiopia’s Tekeste Nekatibeb Nurelign and Wang Xueqin from the mainland won the men’s and women’s segments, respectively, of the 29th Macau Galaxy Entertainment International Marathon Sunday.

Nurelign reached the finish line in two hours, 16 minutes and 15 seconds, grabbing the men’s full marathon’s top prize of US$15,000 and an extra US$3,000 for finishing the race in less than two hours and 17 minutes.

In the women’s full marathon Wang also took home US$15,000, finishing the race in two hours, 37 minutes and 37 seconds.

Last year’s men’s and women’s full marathon races were won by Mykhaylo Iveruk from Ukraine and Roman Gebre Gessese from Ethiopia.

Sanctioned by the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS), the event was first held in 1981 and has been co-organised annually by the Sport Development Board (IDM) and the Macau Athletic Association (AAMC).

Some 4,600 participants from 54 countries and regions, including locals, joined the event’s several different categories this year.
