The Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC) has announced a series of high-profile events to celebrate the Chinese New Year in Macao’s next-door SAR, marking the arrival of the Year of the Horse with spectacular fireworks and racing festivities.

Exclusively sponsored by the HKJC, the “Prosperity Gallops Across Hong Kong” Fireworks Display will take place on 18 February over Victoria Harbour. With an overall budget exceeding HK$ 19 million, the 23-minute show will feature eight scenes and 31,888 pyrotechnic shells incorporating horse-themed imagery and traditional symbols of good fortune.

The 2026 Year of the Horse Raceday at Sha Tin Racecourse commences the following day on 19 February. The event will feature a full programme of festive-themed races and activities.

Adding to the national celebrations, the Club will also support simultaneous drone light shows in Conghua, Guangzhou, and Shanghai.

The HKJC will meanwhile participate in Hong Kong’s International Chinese New Year Night Parade on the first day of the New Year on 17 February. HKJC Equestrian Team rider and Asian Championship medallist Patrick Lam and jockey Britney Wong will greet the public from the Club’s specially designed horse-themed float.

These Lunar New Year events form the vibrant opening chapter of the HKJC’s broader year-long “Year of the Horse” campaign, which honours the deep cultural significance of the horse and the Club’s 140-year history in Hong Kong.
