The 47-member Chinese national table tennis delegation arrived in Macau on Friday for a period of 14-days to prepare for their next competitions.

According to the Government Information Bureau (GCS), the team flew directly from Qatar to Hong Kong and then took the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge to reach Macau where they are staying at the recently opened Athletic Training and Development Centre in Taipa. The trainings will be closed off and during these 14 days, members of the delegation will only travel between their dormitories and the training pavilion.

The GCS statement also said that the members of the delegation will use surgical masks all the time and will have their temperature measured every day.  The table tennis team will not take part in any visits or activities with local residents to “fully concentrate on the training”.

The national table tennis team includes Fan Zhendong, Chen Meng, Ma Long, Xu Xin, Wang Manyu, Zhu Yuling, Wang Chuqin and Sun Yingsha, among others. The delegation participated in the ITTF World Tour – an annual series of table tennis tournaments introduced by International Table Tennis Federation in 1996 – and in training in Doha, Qatar, which took place between March 3–8. Before Qatar, the team took part in the Germany leg that was held at the end of January.

After the cancelation of the next ITTF World Tour games in Japan meant to take place in April, the Chinese team will participate in Shenzhen games in May.

The Qatari Health Ministry confirmed that the number of COVID-19 cases has climbed to 262.
