Macao’s second International Shorts Film Festival, co-organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (known by its Portuguese abbreviation IC) and Galaxy Entertainment Group (GEG), has announced a partnership with Giornate degli Autori (Venice Days) – a subsidiary programme of the Venice International Film Festival.
The collaboration will feature a “Macao Day” event series in Venice in August, aiming to enhance the Macao film festival’s international standing and promote Macao’s film culture and distinct appeal as a Culture City of East Asia.
Venice Days, known for promoting independent films and emerging filmmakers, is one of the three official programmes of the Venice International Film Festival.
The “Macao Day” events are scheduled for 29 to 30 August and will include a special screening of acclaimed Macao short films and a sharing session at the Casa degli Autori, a key venue for Venice Days.

A reception will follow, designed to introduce international industry professionals and audiences to Macao’s cinematic productions and cultural identity.
The GEG Macao International Shorts Film Festival is set to take place in September at various locations, including Galaxy Cinemas, the Galaxy International Convention Center, and Andaz Macau, as well as Cinematheque Passion.
The festival aims to discover and promote outstanding local and international short films, encourage film culture exchange, and offer a platform for emerging directors.
Confusingly, the SAR has hosted a similarly named but entirely unrelated Macau International Short Film Festival for many years.
