September dates have been announced for the 2nd Galaxy Entertainment Group Macao International Shorts Film Festival, which will also bring a series of themed workshops, lectures from industry greats, and a film forum to the city, according to a statement from the Cultural Affairs Bureau (known by its Portuguese initials IC).

The festival is set to take place at Cinematheque Passion and Galaxy Cinemas from 14 to 21 September, with tickets on sale from 5 September.

Featured films have been organised into five categories: ‘Macao Shorts’, with local submissions; ‘New Voices from Horizon’, featuring over 20 international productions by emerging directors; ‘Director in Focus’ highlighting work from the acclaimed Japanese director Nobuhiro Yamashita; ‘East Asia Panorama’, a showcase of the region’s creativity; and ‘Special Screenings’, described by IC as “non-competition prominent films distinguished by their artistic excellence, innovative approaches, or profound insights into society and culture.”

Registrations for outreach activities can be submitted via the Macao International Shorts Film Festival’s website. These will be held at Galaxy Cinemas, the Galaxy International Convention Center and Andaz Macau.

In addition, the festival has established a partnership with Italy’s Giornate degli Autori (Venice Days in English), an independent parallel segment of the Venice International Film Festival. This collaboration will see a ‘Macao Day’ themed series of events held in Venice, Italy, from 29 to 30 August and is an opportunity to promote Macao filmmakers’ talents to the world.

The Macao International Shorts Film Festival’s awards ceremony will be held on 20 September at the Galaxy Auditorium of the Galaxy International Convention Center, where winners will receive trophies and cash prizes.
