The Macau New Neighbourhood (MNN) project’s basement construction in Hengqin was completed mid this year and superstructure works of the buildings have begun as prefabricated components – such as walls and floors – are being installed, the Macau Urban Renewal Limited (MUR) has announced.
The residential and school buildings’ structures are expected to reach topping-out before the end of the year, ready for Macao residents to live, work and start businesses there in the very near future.
MUR said that over 20 buildings’ floor constructions are currently taking place on the site, while facilities like schools, health station, elderly centre, family service centre and an around 5,000-square-metre commercial space – comprising about 60 shops – are being built simultaneously.
Three components of the residential units are eco-friendly built using prefabrication techniques, comprising façade panels, staircases and autoclaved lightweight concrete panels.
Prefabrication is the practice of assembling a structure’s components in a manufacturing site and transporting them to the construction site, ready to be installed, whereas the more conventional practice is to transport basic materials directly to the construction site where they are assembled before being installed.
This December, the MNN project’s 27 residential towers and school buildings are expected to reach topping-out – when the last beam is placed atop a structure. Works on other facilities, including roads and green areas, will then begin gradually, with the entire project expected to complete in the second half of 2023, according to MUR.
About 4,000 residential units are expected to be up for sale starting next year, while MUR and other relevant entities are currently studying to formulate the sales procedures and eligibility criteria.
