Macao’s leader has welcomed the recent unveiling of two plans designed to enhance economic and administrative cooperation within the Greater Bay Area (GBA), a statement from the Government Information Bureau (GCS) says.

Drawn up by the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), the plans cover Hengqin and Macao, as well as Hong Kong and the Qianhai district of Shenzhen.

Chief Executive Ho Iat Seng has said his government would “seize the significant opportunities brought by the development of Hengqin and of Qianhai” and combine them with Macao’s economic diversification strategy, according to the statement.

The wide-ranging Henquin plan includes policy measures concerning new industries, homes, and a new low-carbon city.

It will provide “new space and opportunities for development, livelihood enhancement, and employment, for Macao’s enterprises and its residents,” the statement read.

The Qianhai Plan, meanwhile, outlines an expanded 120-square-kilometre cooperation zone that will see Qianhai, in Shenzhen, partner with Hong Kong in developing industrial synergy and market connectivity within the GBA.
