Two ancient cannons were unearthed at the construction site of Galaxy Macau’s Phase 4 in Cotai Monday afternoon, the Public Security Police (PSP) have announced.

According to The Macau Post Daily, workers reported finding the cannons to the police at 5 pm after accidentally digging them up. Following an examination, the PSP bomb disposal unit confirmed that the cannons do not present any danger.

The cannons – whose age has not been confirmed – are about one metre and 1.3 metres long with a calibre of 50-60 millimetres. Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) officials examined the cannons at the scene and are planning to move them to a storage area.

A 1.45 metre long cannon with a calibre of about 80 millimetres was found in the same area in November last year.

Wong Tong, a military affairs commentator, pointed out when speaking to TDM in November that Cotai is a land reclamation area so the old cannon had possibly been dumped in the sea from a warship.
