The Macau Light Festival 2017 – AMOR MACAU was unveiled at the Ruins of St. Paul Sunday night, kicking off a string of events and festivities to fill this whole month with new elements of tourism and leisure.

“Amor” means “love” in Portuguese, Spanish and other Romance languages.

Themed “Wish-Making under the Stars”, the opening ceremony featured a show choreographed and performed by a local dance troupe. The opening kicked off an array of projection mapping shows and light installations at eight local tourist attractions

At the opening ceremony, Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO) Director Senna Fernandes said that her office will develop the Macau Light Festival into one of the city’s annual signature events and continue to combine elements of gastronomy, culture and creativity to build Macau into a world centre of tourism and leisure.

She also said that a string of other events and festivities will be held this month, including the 2nd Macau International Film Festival & Awards, the Macau Shopping Festival and the Macau International Parade, as well as celebrations marking the 18th anniversary of the establishment of the Macau Special Administrative Region (MSAR), the Christmas holidays and New Year’s Eve.

Taking place from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. from until December 31, the festival will present projection-mapping shows, light installations, interactive games and a raft of new activities such as light art exhibitions, open air concerts and outdoor movie shows. Related cultural and creative products will also be launched during the festival.
