The Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) said in a statement on Monday that it has launched an online bookshop to facilitate the selecting and purchasing of its publications by readers from Macao and abroad via the internet, aiming to promote reading among the public.

The bureau said that since its establishment it has published nearly 1,000 publications in Chinese, Portuguese, English and other languages, out of which 260 publications published over the past eight years, will be available for online sale in the first phase.

According to the statement, the bookshop will use the Express Mail Service (EMS) of the Macau Post and Telecommunications Bureau (CTT) to mail publications to overseas readers. Readers in Macao can choose among 14 public libraries run by the bureau on the peninsula, Taipa and Coloane to collect their orders. Further information is available on the dedicated website www.icm.gov.mo/bookshop or by emailing [email protected].

Readers can also buy the bureau’s publications in person from nearly 20 locations in Macao. Further information can be accessed on the IC Division of Research and Publications website at www.icm.gov.mo/academics.

The Macao Cultural Affairs Bureau was set up in 1982 by Macao’s then Portuguese administration. It was initially called the Cultural Institute of Macao.
