All residents in Zhuhai – which borders Macao – will undergo a nucleic acid test against coronavirus starting today after health authorities detected an asymptomatic carrier.

The mass testing will conclude on Tuesday, according to the Covid-19 epidemic control authority of Zhuhai, which has an estimated population of 2 million.

The asymptomatic carrier flew in from Nanjing, Jiangsu province, which has reported several Covid-19 cases, to Zhuhai on 19 July and checked into a hotel. The person was sent to a quarantine hotel on 21 July. The person tested negative against the virus four times before testing positive on Sunday and was then transferred to the hospital for treatment, reported China Daily.

A trade centre, a hotel and two restaurants in the Xiangzhou district of Zhuhai were put under a 14-day lockdown today. Some other areas in Xiangzhou were placed under seven-day restrictive management.
