Health workers are racing to deal with the latest crisis to hit Macao after three new Covid-19 cases were detected within hours of each other.

The city registered its 66th case – a 32-year-old security guard – today, shortly after logging the 65th patient, a 27-year-old security guard. Both are employed by the Golden Crown China Hotel at the airport, where the 64th patient, a local resident from Turkey, had been quarantined.

All three patients are currently receiving treatment in isolation.

Following the discovery of the 65th case the government declared a State of Immediate Prevention to lessen the risk of a community outbreak of the novel coronavirus.

Blocks C and D of the residence of the 66th case – Avenida de Horta e Costa, Edifício Palácio – have been classified as a prevention and control area and locked down. The area’s Macao Health Code has been changed to red, and nucleic acid tests will be conducted at intervals of one, three and five days.
