Macao had not recorded a new Covid-19 case for 60 days, before the government confirmed the city’s 49th case last night.

According to the Novel Coronavirus Response and Coordination Centre, the 49th Covid-19 patient is a 23-year-old male local resident studying in Portugal, who is among 15 Macao residents who returned to Macao yesterday from Europe and the United States via Taipei.

According to the statement, the man departed from Lisbon for Paris on Sunday, 4 April, aboard Air France flight AF1025.

On Tuesday, 6 April, he took a flight to Taipei on board EVA Air flight BR088,  before returning to Macao yesterday on EVA Air BR801. He arrived in the city at 10 am.

He was immediately given the nucleic acid test and his results came back ‘weakly positive’.

According to the statement from the authorities, the patient has been admitted to the isolation ward of the Conde S. Januário Hospital and is currently in clinical conditions considered normal.

Macao confirmed its first Covid-19 case on 22 January last year and has not recorded a new Covid-19 case for 60 days. Since then, not a single novel coronavirus fatality has been recorded.
