The Novel Coronavirus Response and Coordination Centre has announced that one more arrival from the United States has tested positive for omicron Covid-19 variant.

The centre identified the patient as a 62-year-old local resident who arrived in Macao on Monday from Los Angeles, US via Singapore where he tested positive upon arrival.

He had previously received three shots of the US-made Covid-19 vaccine Moderna, in February, March and November respectively.

As of the centre’s release of the statement this morning, the patient did not show any suspected Covid-19 symptoms.

Macao confirmed its first Omicron variant case on Monday, when its Covid-19 tally rose to 78. That patient, a local 23-year-old resident studying in New York, also arrived in Macao via Singapore from the US. He has meanwhile come down with pneumonia caused by Covid-19.

Macao confirmed its first novel coronavirus case on 22 January last year. No Covid-19 death has been reported in Macao, The Macau Post Daily reported.
