Gaming operator Melco Resorts & Entertainment will officially open the doors of its US$1.1 billion Morpheus hotel resort, Phase 3 of City of Dreams, today evening.

Morpheus is the Hellenic deity of dreams.

In a statement, the company headed by Lawrence Ho Yau Lung described its latest property as the city’s “new icon”.

Morpheus, which was designed by Iraqi-British architect Zaha Hadid – the first woman to receive the Pritzker Architecture Prize, reportedly features the “world’s first” free-form exoskeleton-bound high-rise architectural design.

One of the highlights is the resort-hotel’s Sky Pool, which is located on the 40th floor and 130 metres above the ground.

Morpheus features a 12,000 square feet retail area, offering designer brands from around the world and a “totally new retail experience”

The hotel boasts 770 guest rooms, suites and villas.

As confirmed by the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ) yesterday, Melco has transferred 40 of its gaming tables from its other casinos to Morpheus.

The government is looking into whether to grant additional gaming tables, according to the DICJ statement.
