Though it cost nearly US$20 billion to build, the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge has only been used by tourist buses and a few private vehicles since its 2018 opening.
That could soon change with an agreement between the Macao Transport Bureau (DSAT) and its Hong Kong counterpart to permit cargo transport between the two SARs via the bridge, Macau Post Daily reports.
Currently, goods between Macao and Hong Kong must be moved by sea.

No information has been given on when the agreement will take effect. However, the DSAT has already completed the construction of a cargo handling and customs facility at the bridge’s Macao checkpoint.
Reports say that goods vehicles from Hong Kong will not be allowed to enter Macao. Instead, they will offload their cargo to local transport providers at the checkpoint.
The DSAT says the move is expected to give a boost to trade between Macao and Hong Kong.
