The average hotel occupancy rate in April rose by almost three percentage points to 79.8 percent from 77 percent in March, according to figures from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC).
The occupancy rate for budget hotels showed the most notable increase, rising by five percentage points from 80.9 percent in March to 85.9 percent in April.
The total number of hotel guests grew from 972,000 in March to 1,101,000 last month – a rise of almost 12.5 percent. Guests from mainland China increased from 694,000 in March to 739,000 in April, and guests from Hong Kong – Macao’s second biggest market – rose to 254,000 from 186,000.

The number of visitors arriving on package tours increased marginally from 93,000 to 97,000, while the average length of stay remained static between March and April at 1.6 nights.
According to the DSEC, overnight visitors to Macao injected more than 12.3 billion patacas into the local economy during the first three months of 2023 – excluding gaming expenditure.
Meanwhile, the head of the Macao Government Tourism Office, Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes, told media over the weekend that around 60,000 people were arriving each weekday on average, or more than 50 percent of pre-pandemic figures.
