More than 90,000 visitors – mostly from Hong Kong – arrived in Macao on Friday and on the Saturday of the Buddha’s Birthday long weekend, according to tourism chief Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes.
The head of the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) added that around 60,000 people were arriving each weekday on average, or more than 50 percent of pre-pandemic figures.
She made the remarks on the sidelines of yesterday afternoon’s International Children’s Day Fair at the Workers Stadium, Macau Post Daily reports.

The steady recovery in tourism has been responsible for an almost 30 percent year-on-year jump in retail sales, which reached 24 billion patacas in the first three months of this year.
The Statistics and Census Service recently said that overnight visitors to Macao injected more than 12.3 billion patacas into the local economy during the same period – excluding gaming expenditure.
More than 2.6 billion patacas were spent by same-day visitors during the first quarter, the bureau added.
