Macao’s hotel occupancy rate reached 82.8 percent in October, an uplift on September’s 78.6 percent thanks to the month seeing more visitor arrivals, Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) figures show.
October saw about 1,247,000 visitors spend, on average, 1.6 nights in the SAR – with 72 percent of them hailing from the mainland (the same portion as in September). Guests from Hong Kong made up 15 percent of the total.
Five-star and 2-star hotels performed the best, achieving 85.6 and 83.1 percent occupancy rates, DSEC said.

October’s occupancy rate was above Macao’s average across the first ten months of the year, which was 80.9 percent. Over that period, 11,041,000 guests spent at least one night in Macao and 914,000 visitors arrived on package tours.
There were 137 hotel establishments operating as of October, 19 more than a year prior, DSEC said.
November’s hotel occupancy rate should meanwhile get a boost thanks to the 70th Macau Grand Prix. Before the event, Macao’s tourism authorities expressed confidence that the rate would top 90 percent across the two racing weekends.
