Macao-based photographer and creative director Cássia Schutt, who’s been based in Macao for nearly two decades, has launched her first photo book, MY MACAU: volume one of THE Unlimited Collection.

The launch saw local personalities, many of them fellow creators, gather at the lobby area of Mandarin Oriental, Macau, where a curated selection of works featured on the book have been on exhibit since September.

Schutt began capturing the city during the Covid-19 pandemic as a way of finding solace during lockdown. Publishing her photos had long been a goal, as she mentioned in an interview with Macao News in early 2024. The images – often set in tones of black, white, and grey with vibrant pops of colour – were first shared on her Instagram account

“This book was a long time coming, and an intersection of two things I do, scenography and photography,” she told Macao News at the book launch event. Boasting a striking orange fabric lining adorned with a golden lotus, the book is designed without a front or back cover (both sides serve as cover), with the preface presented in English, Chinese and Portuguese at its centre.

Although this is the Brazilian-born creative’s first book, it is unlikely to be her last, as she aims to showcase other locations through her distinctive lens.

The exhibition MY MACAU: The Beauty of Everyday Life is running at the Mandarin Oriental until the first quarter of 2026.
