Macao’s 42nd Walk for a Million to take place on 14 December

The event commences at 10 am on Avenida Dr Sun Yat-sen, with the finish line at Barra Square, with the route spanning a total of three kilometres
  • Last year’s event raised over 17 million patacas and attracted around 50,000 participants for good causes

The 42nd Walk for a Million will take place on 14 December, the Charity Fund of the Readers of Macao Daily News announced at a press conference yesterday.

The starting ceremony will commence at 10 am on Avenida Dr Sun Yat-sen, with the finish line at Barra Square. The entire route spans approximately 3 kilometres, with the walk expected to take around one hour to complete. 

The chairman of the charity fund, Wong Kuok Seng reported that it had funded eye surgeries for 50 patients, allocating approximately 1 million patacas in charitable funds, and provided assistance to 235 families in need, providing nearly 3 million patacas up until the end of last month.

In terms of emergency relief, the charity allocated 77,000 patacas to assist residents affected by the fire at the Vong Peng Kei Building in Rua da Praia do Manduco in January this year, and distributed 525,000 patacas in aid to street hawkers after a fire at Rua 2 Iao Hon in April.

Walk for a Million is an annual charity walk organised to raise funds for underprivileged and vulnerable groups in Macao, featuring the participation of a broad section of the community.

Last year’s event raised over 17 million patacas and attracted around 50,000 participants, according to local media reports.
