The Macao Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau and the Macao Polytechnic University (MPU) have teamed up to offer a part-time meteorology training programme, which will run at MPU from 13 October 2025 to 30 June 2026.
According to the organisers, the Meteorological Technician Training Course’s aims are threefold: to advance the development of meteorological technology; enhance social services in Macao; and enrich the expertise of meteorological professionals.
The Chinese-language programme will involve 306 hours of theory classes and 30 hours of practical sessions. Evening classes are scheduled to run from Monday to Friday 7 pm to 10 pm, with one morning (9 am to 12 pm) and afternoon session (2 pm to 5 pm) on Saturday.

Students taking the course will learn the skills needed to become a meteorological technician, including those relating to maths, physics, teamwork, communication, meteorology and climatology. The curriculum will also cover meteorological parameters, the use of instruments and observational techniques.
The programme meets the guidelines set by the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) and will be an important credential for those looking to become a meteorological technician with the local weather forecaster.
Macao permanent residents who are interested in undertaking meteorological work and have a senior high diploma or a higher qualification are eligible to enrol. Forty seats available.
Registrations are open until 29 August, with candidates required to pay an application fee of 250 patacas. Those accepted will also be required to pay a deposit of 1,500 patacas.
