All typhoon signals have been cancelled, following the passage of Super Typhoon Yagi.
According to the Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau, Yagi was located 590 kilometres southwest of Macao at 10 am and is forecast to move in a westerly direction, away from the territory. Wind speeds of 230 kilometres per hour have been recorded at its centre, making Yagi the strongest storm to hit the country’s south coast in a decade. More than 400,000 people have been evacuated from its path.

Locally, the storm did little damage. Just 10 people sought refuge in government-run shelters during the passage of Yagi, and two people were injured. During the height of the storm, Macao’s casinos provided 3,500 free parking spaces to residents whose vehicles were in danger of being flooded in underground car parks.
The operations of banks, bridges, government departments, public transport companies and ferries gradually resumed Friday afternoon, along with flights.
