A new orchestral work to commemorate the SAR’s silver jubilee has been unveiled

The piece has been composed by Li Shaosheng, music director of the Wuxi Symphony Orchestra and named for Macao’s official flower
  • The project also involves vocalists Liu Naiqi and Liu Tong, as well as musicians from the China National Symphony Orchestra and the Macao Youth Symphony Orchestra

To commemorate the 25th anniversary of Macao’s return to China, the Wuxi Symphony Orchestra has debuted a new orchestral work entitled “Shengshi Bailian” (“Flourishing White Lotus”), China Daily reports

The special project has been carried out in collaboration with the Macao Cultural Promotion Association. 

Described by China Daily as a musical tribute to Macao’s historical milestone” with a “stirring melody,” the work was composed by the orchestra’s music director, Li Shaosheng. Vocalists Liu Naiqi and Liu Tong, as well as musicians from the China National Symphony Orchestra and the Macao Youth Symphony Orchestra, have taken part in the project.

The lotus is Macao’s official flower and features on the SAR’s flag. It is also being highlighted in the Macao Lotus Flower Festival, which kicks off on Friday.

The Macao Special Administrative Region marks the 25th anniversary of its establishment this year. 

Chief Executive Ho Iat Seng has stated that his administration intends to stage a “grand, but simple” event to mark the date, one that “will not be wasteful or extravagant.”
