SJM’s Managing Director Angela Leong On Kei told reporters Monday that the area where a large-scale sex ring was allegedly operating in Hotel Lisboa was not under the gaming operator’s control but the company would, nevertheless, reassess its management and security staff.

Leong made the comments after attending a charity event to mark the adjacent Grand Lisboa’s 8th anniversary.

Earlier this month, the Judiciary Police (PJ) arrested Alan Ho Yau Lun and five other suspects for allegedly running a prostitution ring out of his uncle Stanley Ho Hung Sun’s Hotel Lisboa. The Public Prosecution Office (MP) said last Thursday that six suspects from the sex ring have meanwhile been remanded in custody, awaiting trial in the city’s Coloane jail.

“The ‘sand circle’ [a colloquial term commonly used to refer to the shop area in Lisboa Hotel] is not under SJM’s administration. The matter [sex ring] is now subject to legal procedures so I don’t have any response,” Leong said when asked by reporters about the case.

“But I believe this has reminded us that we have to reassess our security and senior management employees and how to do better in terms of [staff] accountability and all the management work,” Leong said, before rushing to her limousine.

For Grand Lisboa’s 8th anniversary bash, SJM had ordered 6,888 bars of soap hand-made by Fuhong Society of Macau service users and wrapped by Macau Special Olympics service users. The bars were displayed at the ceremony. SJM donated 80,000 patacas each to the two charitable organisations on Monday. (macaunews/macapost)
