Local pupils from 28 secondary schools will take part in a competition that will test their knowledge on international diplomacy late this month. The competition includes the nation’s diplomatic affairs and its relationship with the rest of the world. The contest aims to encourage local pupils to learn more about their own country and to nurture their “Love the Country and Love Macau” patriotism.
The annual competition is co-organised by the Office of the Commissioner of the Foreign Ministry (FM) in Macau, the Education and Youth Affairs Bureau (DSEJ) and the Macau Federation of Trade Unions (Gung Luen).
A press conference about the contest, co-hosted by Deputy Commissioner Feng Tie, DSEJ Director Leong Lai and Leong Wai Fong, a vice-president of Gung Luen, was held Thursday at the Foreign Ministry Commission in Zape.
According to Leong Lai, pupils from 28 local secondary schools will take part in the contest, the highest number since the contest was first organised.
According to Leong Wai Fong, the preliminary round will take place on 27 September. The eight teams which get the highest marks will be in the final on October 16. Each team consists of five pupils.
The competition was first held in 2010, Feng said, adding that the number of teams which will be in the final has been increased from six teams last year to eight this time.
Leong Wai Fong said that the teams entering the final will be invited to visit the mainland next year, to places including Beijing, where they will visit the Foreign Ministry, and a number of other cities.
Leong Lai said the contest would encourage local pupils to pay more attention to the development of their country so that they will understand more about national and international affairs, which previous contests had done. (macaunews/macaupost)
