A record-breaking 145,000 people in attendance the 70th Macau Grand Prix, according to Sports Bureau chief and Macau Grand Prix Organizing Committee coordinator, Pun Weng Kun, who spoke to local media yesterday.

By comparison, there were 86,000 people in attendance at the Grand Prix in pre-pandemic 2019.

Pun noted that there were a total of 36,000 spectators in attendance on the last day of the Macau Grand Prix, which was held over the weekends of 11 to 12 and 16 to 19 November. Around 99,0000 people attended the event during its last four days.

The Sports Bureau president said that the hospitality sector had done well out of the Grand Prix, with takings exceeding expectations. The Macao Daily reported that hotels along the Cotai Strip were near capacity, as hotel occupancy reached 90 percent over this period.

Official figures show that the number of visitors entering Macao last Saturday was 130,000, which is on par with the figure during the Golden Week holiday in October.

Chairman of the Macau Hotel & Tourism Association, Lo Chi-leung, stated that Macao is bustling once again, thanks to an increase in this year’s race events, the return of international racers and the Grand Prix’s overlap with major events such as the Food Festival.

Pun expressed satisfaction with the outcome of this year’s Grand Prix, saying that the races were carried out “very smoothly.”
