Chief Executive Fernando Chui Sai On said Thursday he wasn’t a person who simply does what people ask him to do and insisted that his government’s policy-making is based on scientific data.
Asked by a reporter for claims that in the run-up to his re-election campaign he seemed just to do what people wanted him to do, he replied that he was certainly no such person.
He made the remarks on the sidelines of a celebratory event organised by the Macau Chinese Enterprises Association to mark the 15th anniversary of the establishment of the Macau Special Administration Region (MSAR) and swearing-in of the association’s new board members. Chui was one of several hundred guests at the event.
The Chief Executive Electoral Management Committee confirmed on Wednesday that Chui is the lone candidate of the August 31 chief executive election. His next five-year term will start at midnight on December 19.
Chui said that as chief executive he focuses on his work and does his job to the best of his ability.
“Governance and policy-making must be based on scientific data and research…I don’t just do whatever the public want,” Chui said, adding that he was “pleased to listen to the public, particularly collecting their opinions about governing over the next five year.”
Chui will attend a meeting organised by the Chief Executive Electoral Management Committee next Saturday to explain his campaign platform and answer questions raised by members of the 400-head Chief Executive Election Committee. The same day, Chui will also hold a press conference about his platform. (macaunews/macaupost)
