The Asian Film Awards Academy has launched a new initiative designed to “nurture and empower the next generation of Asian filmmakers,” according to a recent press release.
International Film Camp, as the initiative is called, will teach filmmaking skills, offer mentorship from industry professionals, and facilitate participants to come up with a proposal for a short-form fictional film around the theme of “My Hometown.”
Scheduled to take place at Sands China’s integrated resorts in Macao between 9 and 13 April next year, the camp will take on 16 emerging filmmakers aged between 21 and 40.
At the end of the camp, each participant has the opportunity to pitch their proposal to a panel chaired by veteran producer Terence Chang.

The eight best pitches will receive individual production grants of HK$300,000 (US$38,000). Filmmakers must use this money to bring their short films to life.
The Asian Film Awards Academy said it would include the completed films in its annual touring programme – Asian Cinerama – and help filmmakers submit their work to other short film festivals.
IFC has been developed with backing from the Hong Kong Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau, Instituto Cultural of Macau, Create Hong Kong, Film Development Fund and Sands China Ltd.
