Preparing for flights from Macau’s International Airport (MIA) is going to get easier (for travellers from mainland China, at least), with a new check-in centre about to open at the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge (HZMB) border checkpoint.
The service will start in late August, when the Express Link bus begins operations between the HZMB checkpoint and MIA, according to a statement from the local airport company, CAM.
The centre is located at the Macao-end of the HZMB, on the ground floor. After completing airport check-in procedures, travellers can take the Express Link bus directly into MIA’s restricted access area to await their flights.

Most travellers using the HZMB border gate to reach Macao’s airport, located in Taipa, are mainland Chinese residents.
Express Link bus services from other land and sea border checkpoints will gradually resume services as the year continues, CAM’s statement confirmed.
The new check-in centre meets growing demand for travel. The statement noted that Macao’s international airport saw more than 1.95 million passengers within the first half of 2023, with daily averages hitting 16,000. That’s more than 40 percent of pre-pandemic levels of travel – a figure the statement said was steadily increasing.
According to CAM, the new HZMB check-in centre would “improve passenger convenience and better integrate the needs of the development of the Greater Bay Area.”
