Teams from the Fire Services Bureau and the Association of Macao Youth Development won the open and the women’s races respectively on the second day of the 2023 SJM Macao International Dragon Boat Races, held over the weekend.
Both teams also won in their respective races in the small dragon boat format, held over a 200-metre course on Saturday, while the University of Macau A team picked up the honour in the student small boat category.
Dozens of teams braved heavy rain and unsettled weather over the past two days to compete in the event, organised by the Sports Bureau and sponsored by gaming concessionaire SJM.

International races, suspended during the Covid-19 pandemic, will be held on June 22, a public holiday and the date of the Dragon Boat Festival (also called Tuen Ng in Cantonese and Duanwu in Mandarin). The standard format student races will also take place that day.
This year, teams from Mainland China, Hong Kong, Australia, Thailand, Singapore and the Philippines will compete with local teams over a 500-metre distance for the championship.
The races will be broadcast live on TDM Ou Mun, TDM Sport and Ou Mun-Macau (with Cantonese and Portuguese commentary), as well as live-streamed on the event’s website.
