Premier Li Keqiang said Wednesday that the central government will continue to support the chief executives of Hong Kong and Macau and their governments, vowing that Beijing will further develop co-operation between the mainland and the two special administrative regions which he believes will promote the competiveness of both.
Li’s speech at the opening meeting of the annual session of the National People’s Congress(NPC) also introduced the guiding principles to the central government’s work related to Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan .
The premier said that the central government would “steadfastly” uphold the principle of “One Country Two Systems”, implement the Basic Laws of Hong Kong and Macau in “an accurate and comprehensive manner” and maintain Hong Kong and Macau’ prosperity.
He also said that the central government would support the two regions to develop their economy, improve residents’ livelihoods, promote democracy in line with the law, and maintain social harmony.
“During the process of the state deepening its reform and moving forward with modernisation, [I believe that] Hong Kong and Macau will see better development,” Li stressed.
According to the Macau Post Daily Li also said that the central government will further improve mutual trust between the mainland and Taiwan as well as promote cross-strait economic integration, exchanges and co-operation.(macaunews)
